Kolfe Hospital is built on the conviction that geography should not determine the quality of care a patient receives. By bringing internationally accredited oncology, precision diagnostics, cell and gene therapy, and a full spectrum of clinical services to Addis Ababa, this facility sets a new standard for what is possible in Ethiopian healthcare.
Developed as a 20-year public-private partnership with the Addis Ababa City Administration Health Bureau, Bethel Mendida unites a JCI accreditation pathway, a U.S. board-certified expert network drawn from leading academic institutions, and Africa's most comprehensive clinical laboratory under one purpose-built campus.
Oncology Center of Excellence
Systemic therapy — chemotherapy, targeted agents, and immunotherapy — delivered by internationally trained oncologists aligned to NCCN guidelines. Multidisciplinary tumor board review for every complex case.
Complex oncologic surgery including minimally invasive and robotic-assisted procedures. Dedicated oncologic anesthesia, intensive care, and post-operative pathology review integrated across all surgical programs.
Linear accelerator (LINAC) program delivering IMRT and IGRT. The first dedicated radiation oncology service in Ethiopia, designed and commissioned by internationally credentialed radiation physicists.
CAP/CLIA-pathway accredited molecular diagnostics anchoring the Central Laboratory. Comprehensive genomic profiling, next-generation sequencing, and tumor biomarker analysis. Results available from Day 1 of operations.
Cell and gene therapy program — including hematopoietic stem cell transplantation — anchored by a founding international clinical partner from a leading South Asian academic medical center. Visiting clinics launching 2026; fully operational within 18 months of launch.
Africa's most comprehensive clinical laboratory, anchored in the dedicated Block 10 facility. Full pathology, hematology, clinical chemistry, and molecular diagnostics under a unified accreditation framework targeting CAP certification.
Full-Service Hospital
Bethel Mendida is a full-service hospital. The Oncology Center of Excellence defines our anchor program — every patient also has access to the complete range of specialist and general medical services expected of a premier tertiary care institution.
Central Laboratory
The Bethel Mendida Central Laboratory, in the dedicated Block 10 facility, is being built to a specification with no precedent in sub-Saharan Africa. Anchored by a CAP/CLIA accreditation pathway and led by internationally trained laboratory directors, it brings molecular-level diagnostic capability previously accessible only through referral abroad.
Clinical Leadership
A network drawn from leading academic medical centers — including faculty affiliated with institutions such as Stanford Medicine, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering, and other NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers. The network spans the full breadth of the Bethel Mendida clinical program — hematologic oncology, precision oncology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, thoracic oncology, medical oncology, and neurological oncology.
Sister facility integration. Together with Nifas Silk Lafto Hospital — the Cardiac and Neuro Center of Excellence — Bethel Mendida forms East Africa's most complete clinical ecosystem, sharing the diagnostic backbone of the Central Laboratory across both campuses.
